Holiday Gift Guide Part 1

Hello, guys!  The Holiday's have snuck up faster than ever before this year.  I seriously cannot believe it is almost one month until Christmas and that means it is now time for the first of many holiday gift guides.  I am going to need everyone's help with ideas for future gift guides!  Whatever you need, I will try and help!  This makes Christmas shopping a lot easier when you can't figure out what to buy for those certain people in your life.  This gift guide is for women and everything is under $60!  All of these would be great for a friendmotherco-worker or teacher.  My favorites are the Topshop tassel saddle bag and the Casetify marble phone case.  I hope this series of gift guides will make your holiday shopping at least a little bit easier!  Let me know in the comments if there is a certain gift guide you'd like to see!  Have a good Wednesday!  We're halfway to the weekend.

xoxo,

Brooke

Learning To Live For Yourself

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Hi, everyone!  I've been thinking lately about how my entire life I've wasted so much time basing so much of my own happiness on others actions and presence in my life.  I have always depended a lot on other people to make me feel secure and happy.  I have found this to be a huge problem for me. I have always done the things everyone else has wanted me to do without focusing on the things that I really need to be doing with my own life.  I never realized just how much I based my happiness on other people.  If you are living this same way, you need to change it!  It is no way to live and the base of our happiness comes from within ourselves, definitely not from someone else.  I am here to tell you that others will disappoint you & you have to rise above it and realize no one is in control of your happiness except for you.  Don't let the actions of others get to you & affect your happiness because honestly it has nothing to do with you and all to do with issues they're dealing with inside of their own self.  Here are 9 ways to learn to find your inner happiness and start living the life that you want to live.

1.  Figure out what makes you happy and what you're most passionate about.  Some little things that make me happy is blogging, shopping, organizing my room, going out to eat with friends, stopping for a bouquet of fresh flowers & decorating.  Sometimes it is the littlest things that can make us the most happy.

2.  Focus on yourself.  Yes, I've always been told put others before yourself too.  Well, that is great to a certain point... However, when you're putting others before yourself and you're missing out on so many important things that you are going to look back & regret then you definitely need to reevaluate just how much you're putting someone else's happiness in front of your own.  When you're focusing on making someone else happy all the time and not ever thinking about yourself you will eventually start to lose value to that person & soon you will see yourself as a doormat.

3. When you find your passion, make it a reality.  I contemplated starting a blog so long that I started to question it.  (How was I going to take my own pictures? What if I couldn't constantly come up with new content? What if no one enjoyed it?) Shortly after I started praying hard about it, it just happened.  Don't sit around and debate on doing something that you want to do.  Just do it and eventually all the details will fall into place!

4.  Step out of your comfort zone.  This is something I've struggled a lot with & still do.  I got 3 years deep into my teaching degree and decided that I didn't know if I could even make it through student teaching because I am so shy when speaking in front of people.  I could do it in front of a group of kids all day long but with another teacher watching me is a different story.  I then began questioning if its what I really honestly wanted to do with my life and have flipped majors a few times.  I have now decided to come out of my comfort zone and to finish my teaching degree.  Nothing good can ever happen from staying in your comfort zone.

5. Enjoy your alone time. As much as I have always depended on other people for my happiness in the past, I have always loved being alone.  I could seriously spend weeks alone and not get the slightest bit lonely... Everyone needs time to their self & when you get it, use it wisely.  Organize. Read. Re-arrange your room.  Catch up on your favorite show.  Get out your planner & do some planning.

7. Work on your relationship with God.  The key to ultimate happiness here on Earth is having God in  your life.  There is so much temptation and evil in this world & without him it is impossible to lead a happy life.  We should all strive to be better & above than the evil in this world.  Start a daily reading plan or buy a devotional.  My friend screenshots her devotional & sends it to me often and it is always exactly what I need to hear.

8.  Learn to genuinely love yourself.  It is so easy, especially for girls these days to get down on theirselves with all the pressure of makeup, hair & clothes.  Start focusing on the good things about yourself & stop focusing on the bad.  I have always been one of the hardest people I know on myself & a bit of a perfectionist about certain things and it is not easy.  God made us all the way he wants us to look & we are all perfect in his eyes.

9. Learn to appreciate the present & build a future that you want.  Just because we have made tons of silly mistakes in the past doesn't mean it has to dictate the outcome of our future.  Focus on building the life that you want to live & realize that every little step you take gets you one step closer.

1/2/3/4/5

This is probably the favorite post I've done so far & I think it is something that a lot of us probably need to work on.  If you're sacrificing so much for others that your own life is lacking then you should definitely make arrangements to change that.  Happiness starts with ourselves & I'm so glad I have finally realized that so that I can start living the happier life that I (not someone else) want to live.  Happy Tuesday!

Brooke
